Today it is used for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) or autonomous drive systems, etc but often leverage lower capacity options; Universal Flash Storage (UFS) is the newest interface used in automotive and is not as common as eMMC. It offers a faster interface for next-generation applications such as e-cockpits, Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), and AI-enabled autonomous drive systems.
An industry first 3D TLC NAND eMMC and 256GB eMMC automotive grade embedded flash drive (EFD) designed for autonomous drive, artificial intelligence applications, augmented reality and other future applications has been released few days ago by Western Digital.
Storage is one of the fastest growing semiconductor applications autonomous drive. New features also include: advanced health monitoring, thermal management, auto and manual read refresh, robust power management, advanced firmware memory management and data retention to exceed JEDEC all current standards.
New EFD comes as model EM122 with 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB while model EM132 is delivered with 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB of storage capacity.
